Submissions – Closed

Submission Window Closed
Submission Window is September 1 – December 31

Due to the high volume of submissions and our current staffing constraints (as our dedicated team balances full-time jobs alongside their commitments to the journal), we find it necessary work around a submission window. But we are forever thankful for considering us year round as we spent many years collecting work on a rolling basis.

Please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates regarding the reopening of submissions. We look forward to continuing our literary journey with you.
Thank you for being part of the Apalachee Review community.
Publication schedule: Our goal is to publish once a year in the Summer.

Be nice to us: We try to send a reply in 4-6 months, but sometimes we get bogged down. This is especially true when we are going to press. Your manuscript is one of hundreds, and we try to read every one. All our editors are volunteers; so if you don’t hear from us, feel free to ask about the status of your manuscript, but be polite.

Submission Manager: We are now only accepting submissions via our Submission Manager during the submission window. We will, however, continue accepting submissions from incarcerated individuals who wish to submit to Apalachee Review.

Do we mind simultaneous submissions? No. You’re crazy if you don’t send simultaneous submissions. In fact, we think that editors who forbid simultaneous submissions can’t possibly be writers. Just drop us a line if you’ve sent us a story or poem that has been taken by another magazine.

Cover letters: If you choose to write a cover letter, mention a few of your previous publications if you have published before. However, don’t be discouraged if you haven’t published, we are always looking for work by talented unpublished writers.

Fiction: Send only one short story up to 6000 words (or 2-3 flash or micro fiction). Stories should be typed, double-spaced, and proofread. Don’t send manuscripts of novels or short story collections. We do like to see chapters of novels, but they have to work on their own.

Poetry: Send no more than 3-5 poems, double or single-spaced. Don’t send book manuscripts.

Creative non-fiction: We are delighted to publish interestingly written non-fiction pieces on any subject. We are not looking for journalism, scholarly writing, or book reviews. The length requirement is the same as fiction.

Distribution: AR has national distribution and subscribers in all fifty states, as well as in Europe, Asia, and South America.

Payment: Two copies.

Rights: All future rights belong to the individual authors or artists.
